MHD Timelines

Teachers can adapt the History Day program to fit the needs of their students and schedules. The first document listed below is a broad timeline for completing the Michigan History Day® program. We have also included sample timelines created by Michigan History Day teachers.

Michigan History Day Annual Timeline

East Kentwood High School, Lindsey Boyle
Lindsey Boyle has taught at East Kentwood High School in Kentwood, Michigan for 12 years. She has used MHD with her AP United States History students for three years.

Whitehall NHD Team, Jan Klco
Jan Klco has served as the head coach of the Whitehall NHD Team since 2005. This will be her 33rd competition year with NHD! The document she shared is a result of collaboration with teachers over her years of working with the program.

Bay City Central High School, Craig Windt
Craig Windt has taught social studies at Bay City Central High School for the past 14 years of his 22 years in education. He has used MHD in the classroom for about 10 years. He was selected as the Behring Teacher of the Year for Michigan in 2016.

Christa McAuliffe Middle School, Jennifer Gradowski
Jennifer Gradowski has taught Social Studies for the past 22 years at Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Bangor Township, which is near Bay City. She uses the Michigan History Day program as part of her 8th grade honors U.S. History class.

Forest Hills Eastern Middle School, Adam McVicker and Jim Cross
Adam McVicker and Jim Cross have used Michigan History Day as part of the honors social studies curriculum for 12 years. They have a combined 40+ years in the education field.
