Midwest’s oldest county government buildings create a rare time-travel adventure

Looking for a historical experience that’s truly exceptional? The History Center at Courthouse Square in Berrien Springs allows visitors to step back into the 1800s and marvel at the architecture of the oldest county government buildings in the Midwest.

Within a beautiful park setting, guests can explore an 1839 courthouse, 1830 log house, 1870 sheriff’s residence, and 1860/1873 county records and office building.

The site features permanent and changing exhibits highlighting regional and American history and also offers a museum store and special events and programs.

Location: 313 N. Cass St., Berrien Springs MI 49103

Hours: Sept-May: Mon-Fri 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Jun-Aug: Mon-Sat 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Cost: Free.
