LANSING, Mich.—The Historical Society of Michigan (HSM) is pleased to announce its 2023 conference schedule. Join the Society for three highly anticipated annual events and celebrate Michigan's diverse stories from all regions of the state. The 65th Annual Michigan in Perspective: Local History Conference will take place in Novi on March 24-25. The 74th Annual Upper Peninsula History Conference will take place in Iron Mountain on June 23-25, and the 149th Annual Meeting and Michigan History Conference will take place in Roscommon on September 22-24.

Each year, HSM hosts three conferences held throughout the state of Michigan. One is held annually in the metro Detroit area, another travels to different regions of the Upper Peninsula and the third travels to different regions of the mitten. Those three events are widely attended by historians, members of the public, authors, vendors and more.

The 65th Annual Michigan in Perspective: Local History Conference will take place on March 24-25, 2023, at the Novi Suburban Collection Showplace. Held annually in the spring in the metro Detroit area, this conference is open to anyone interested in state or regional history. The largest of HSM's three conferences, Michigan in Perspective offers several keynotes that cover a wide range of popular topics, more than two dozen breakout sessions that address local and statewide history, an exhibit hall featuring Michigan vendors and publishers, banquet meals and more. The 74th Annual Upper Peninsula History Conference will take place on June 23-25, 2023, in Iron Mountain. This event pays particular attention to U.P. history topics and themes, and for 2023, it will highlight the history of Iron Mountain, the western region of the Upper Peninsula and wider U.P. topics. Join HSM for an exciting weekend filled with breakouts, keynotes, immersive tours, an exhibit hall, banquets and more. The 149th Annual Meeting and Michigan History Conference will take place on September 22-24, 2023, in Roscommon. Moving to a different area of the Lower Peninsula each year, this conference will feature the history of Roscommon and Crawford counties, their surrounding areas and Northern Lower Michigan through a selection of keynotes, breakouts, tours, a robust exhibit hall, banquets and more. The Historical Society of Michigan is the state’s oldest cultural organization, founded in 1828. A nongovernmental nonprofit, the Society focuses on publications, conferences, education, awards and recognition programming, and support for local history organizations to preserve and promote Michigan’s rich history.
